Hattour, A..
The temporal evolution of the demographic structure of bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus, Linnaeus 1758) and of the little tuna (Euthynnus alletteratus, Rafinesque 1810) by the Tunisian traps of Sidi Daoud and Monastir is studied during 3 periods (1979-1983; 1988-1992 and 1993-1997). This survey showed the two points of passive capture landing draw the bluefin tuna from two populations of different composition. The fish taken from Tunisian waters do not from a homogenous group of similar beings, since they result from a mixture of local Mediterrean and Atlantic forms. This conclusion was arrived at by Heldt (1929), and confirmed in 2004, by displacement studies indicated that, after reproduction, the adults (<100kg) remained in the Mediterranean, and that,...

OceanDocs
Izzo, A.; Isla, M.; Salvini, L.; Bartozzetti, J.D.; Garcia, J.C.; Roth, R.R.; Prado, L.; Ercoli, R..
This paper deals with the design and application of different fishing gears tested in the Beagle Channel (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina) with the supervision of the technical personnel of INIDEP Fishing Gear Group, the support of the General Directorate of Natural Resources (known today as SRNyAH) of Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur Province and the participation of local fishermen. Activities started as a result of an agreement between the INIDEP and the SRNyAH ratified in 1994. The fishing gear tested, which consist of two paired midwater trawl nets, a gill net, a surrounding net, a bottom lingline, a pot for kingklip and a line of octopus traps may be used in vessels ranging from 30 to 120 HP in coastal waters, channels and inland...

Firpo, C.; Wyngaard, J.; Iorio, M.I..
To standardize false king crab catch rates and transform them into abundance indices it is essential to count on a model that adequately describes the relation between catch per trap and fishing time. Considering data derived from research surveys carried out on board of the artisanal fleet in the Beagle Channel, assuming an asymptotic catch trend and absence of escape, to describe the relation an exponential model was applied. The Coo (asymptotic catch) and a (income rate) parameters of the model allowed to build a correction factor to transform the catches obtained with different fishing times into relative abundance indices. The model provides, besides, the optimum time to maximize catches.

Hattour, A.
